Published by Niall Cook December 20th, 2006 in Enterprise bookmarkingZDNet’s Dion Hinchcliffe rounds up 2006 from the perspective of Enterprise 2.0. Here’s his timeline:
March 2006
- Harvard’s Andrew McAfee introduces Enterprise 2.0
April 2006
- Nicholas Carr says “some skepticism is in orderâ€
July 2006
- The first Enterprise 2.0 labeled products appear
- The challenges and issues of Enterprise 2.0 get largely bounded
September 2006
- Enterprise 2.0 hits the conference circuit
November 2006
- Enterprise 2.0 undergoes a minor struggle of definition
- Enterprise 2.0 case studies become popular but remain scarce
I completely agree with Rod Boothby when he says that Enterprise 2.0 has so far been just about blogs and wikis. As I outlined in my previous post, there is a lot more to it than that and sooner or later companies will realize that they need tools to connect the different behaviors that blogs and wikis encourage. IT departments will also realize that unless they get involved, their users will simply use public services that put the business’s collective intelligence at risk.
