Cogenz key features

Published by Niall Cook March 22nd, 2006 in Cogenz

I’ve been encouraged by the positive reaction to the inaugural announcement I made about Cogenz at the weekend. Some people I respect have already said kind things. I’ve also noticed a few people bookmarking this blog (how appropriate) on del.icio.us. I guess I now need to make sure the final application meets their high expectations.

Let me give you an update on some of the key features (aside from the standard bookmarking-type functionality you would expect):

  1. Hosted service, with tiered pricing and discounts for non-profits, educational institutions etc.
  2. User validation and approval
  3. IP range and email domain restrictions
  4. RSS and email subscriptions
  5. Private bookmarks
  6. User tags (e.g departments, offices, project teams, etc.)
  7. Administrator statistics (users, tags, bookmarks, clicks)

Of course there’s a lot more to it than this, but I’ll probably get beaten up if I include something here that hasn’t been agreed yet!

We’ve got the basic functionality built already, and it’s pretty fast (even with over a million test bookmarks). We’re in the process of finalising the user interface at the moment with the aim of getting an alpha version sometime in April. Very exciting.

No doubt we’ll get some flack by building in .net and SQL 2005, but hey, if it’s good enough for MySpace…

More soon.
